And the goddamn wall fell within minutes of the initial onslaught.

Alessandro felt--too much rage to even bother detailing the fine gradations where one type of fury was directed where, as opposed to this other type. But he was still in control of himself enough to grab Rosanna by the arm and attempt to pull her away.

The girl resisted him and yanked back hard towards the wall. Damn it!

"It's falling! We gotta get away before it falls on us!" He yelled at her loud enough so that it finally seeped in.

They ran with the rest of the students who had escaped in time. Who knew how many were trapped beneath it all. Aless certainly didn't want to think about it. If he allowed himself one little bit of pity or sorrow to properly mourn those who had fallen, and those who would inevitably fall--perhaps all of them--he would go insane and the will to fight for survival would be driven out of him.

He had heard their screams as the wall came crushing down, and was enough to cause him to turn around, face the dust-cloud that billowed from the rubble like a roiling curtain. For now, both sides were quiet. But only for a very short while. The pause had been illusory, one of those small moments that stretch into infinity because of their portent. This one meant disaster.

The green bolts flew at them within the second, retaliatory shots were fired in equal viciousness. This was the real battle. Was it what they had expected. He looked to his side where he expected to see Rosanna, and instead saw a vision of Diana, bolts of light as if they were her arrows. The poetry, the epic nature of the battle seized him for a second and... delivered him elsewhere. A new plateau of consciousness where he might as well have seen red.

"Expelliarmus! Stupefy! Confundis! Impedimenta! Levicorpus, EXPELLIARMUS! Incarcerous! Incendio!" Spell after spell he fired off so quick he later would wonder if the words ran onto each other, and wonder if the spells had been fired off at all. But they were. They had been. And in the first round Aless had taken down at least a few.

Then colorful flashes--thank Merlin's beard none of them green--hurled themselves towards him. Quickly, Shield Charm! Yes, "Protego!"

"Wait, Dominic! Help!"

His blood went cold at the sound of that cry. That was...Tatiana...hadn't she gotten out of the way to? He thought that...

"Shit!" he choked, turning to the sound of the wall crashing down. Where was she? She had been right there, and he thought that she would have been able to run out with the others. That wasn't good. That just wasn't-

"Avada Kedavra!"

He was forced to dodge another killing curse, diving out of the way and spinning around to face his new assailant. He brought up his wand, striking one of them down with a quick shot to the head. Then one of them was behind him, and unable to aim his wand in time he struck back with his elbow, ploughing them in the chest. That was enough of a distraction for him to break away, eyes immediately looking to the stone heap for any sight of his friend.

Then he saw her- just a bit of dark hair and tanned skin peeking out from beneath the chunks of the broken wall.

"Fuck, no! Tatiana!" Something grabbed him by the shoulder, and his response was instantaneous. Clenching his wand securely in hand, he spun around, using his other arm to knock the Death Eater's wand arm up in the air, giving him the opportunity to bring his weapon in close. The second seemed to slow- his mind preoccupied by what had just happened.

Those bastards...Tatiana...they had...

"Avada Kedavra," he hissed for the first time, meaning every word of it. The Death Eater went to the floor with a flash of green light. More were already coming.

Honestly, he had heard Renée demand that he didn't get himself killed, but this was just too much. He had been heading towards the hole, but now...no, he had to get back over there, to the wall. Which would be easier if people didn't keep getting in his fucking way.

"Foro!" Struck through the chest, his next target went to the ground. A few more were already on him after that, and while he didn't have time to react to all of them with his wand, he had methods which works considerably faster by time. He switched over to physical combat for a moment, knocked the wand out of one of the Death Eater's hands and kick the other back with a foot straight to the chest. A third was dealt with with a close quarters punch to the face.

A wordless sectumsempra spell cut open one of the fallen, and another foro pierced the one he had just knocked back. It was about then that the remaining one pounced him. Avoiding a shot from the Death Eater's wand, Dominic seized the man's arm, dragging them both to the floor.

"Avada Kedavra!"

A killing curse from one of the remaining Death Eaters flew in his direction. Gritting his teeth, in one decisive movement Dominic hauled the man that had tackled him up over him, using the body as a human shield. The Death Eater went limp in his hands, dropping onto him. Swearing to himself, the Spirito shoved the corpse off of him, snatching up the fallen wand as well.

A couple more were coming in his direction, but were apparently surprised to discover that he was now wielding two wands. One for each Death Eater.

"Foro!" Two more down. Now he was running towards the broken wall.

"Shit..." he winced, dropping down by the pile of rubble, trying to find a way that he could fish the Romanian out of there. She could have been dead already. He didn't know- but if he just left her there whatever damage was there could have gotten worse. Without any further hesitation, he hastily began to levitate the large stones off of her, trying to pay attention to his surroundings as well so that no one would blind side him while he worked.

Sadly there were a bit too many angles to work with.

Something struck him in the back and over the shoulder, tearing a gash into his skin. He dropped forward, stunned by the shot, and wondering where the hell it had come from. Tatiana, uncovered aside from her legs was lying motionless at his side. Grounding himself, he was on his feet again. Turning around to strike through the barrier that was still managing to hold some of the Death Eaters out.

Regardless of being injured, he didn't have time to stop and deal with it. Tatiana...he didn't know how she was. But maybe he had been able to help a bit by releasing some of the pressure put on her body by the weight of the stones. If she was dead...

Well, he'd let himself think about that later.

She inhaled deeply, ah did they smell that too? The unmistakable scent of fear wafting on the draft billowing through the hole they’d made, or maybe it was just the pungent smell of fire and smoke. Either way, she knew her ‘colleagues’ would or would have been feeling unmistakably terrified by this sudden onslaught, and would be blissfully unaware that this woman wouldn’t be here, at least not until the early hours of the morning.

But this was not so, for Daeva Ombre was back at school in the flesh, well under her cover. It felt good to stride into the school in her Death Eaters cloak. Granted she couldn’t reveal her identity yet, and had it safely secure and hidden behind the ornate mask fitted perfectly to her face. Which had been transfigured dramatically, should anything go wrong prior to the downfall.

Daeva was highly confident in that not being an option.

“HURRY UP!” she screeched at the pawns attempting to burst through the roof, as she worked to keep the stupid pests some bastard had released onto the floor as a pitiful attempt at some defence. Stupid snakes that were moving at break-neck speeds and spitting flesh-eating acid that seemed to be bothering the group making the dent in the hole, and other things she didn’t have time to identify. But Ombre was a good shot.

Getting frustrated with this lack of progress, the Transfiguration Professor joined them, screaming “MAXIMUS BOMBARDA!” with a fellow Death Eater she was sure she’d trained with at some stage. Finally the ceiling caved and they swept up in a glorious blur of black cloaks, Daeva leaping forward and sweeping up through the portal, landing quite comfortably on the outer edge. Falling to one knee as a spell fell towards her, shooting back an Advada Kedavra without a second thought, getting up nonchalantly and grabbing the next two Death Eaters who streamed out of the hole and dragging them behind the other Death Eaters.

“Don’t be stupid and run up to the front lines, use your bloody brains! Cover me, and if you don’t do it well, it’ll be the worst thing you’ve ever done.” With this, she bent forward, gripping her wand and drawing it in slow circles, muttering to herself. From the floor ascended a ribbon of black fire. It twined and formed a large, seething and ever-turning black ball in front of her. Finally the muttering became coherent;

“Obscurum audite mihi exorior materia EVINCO!”

With the last word exclaimed, the ball expanded rapidly and literally exploded into hundreds of smaller forms before finally materializing into recognizable shapes. All of them ravens. They looked like 3D shadows, plied off the walls, which in a sense, is exactly what they were, but all with glowing green or red eyes.

The shadow creatures all lingered around before Ombre pointed forward and yelled, “ENTREAT!” And with the next wave of attacks the twenty or so creatures leapt into action. They weren’t hard to get rid of, that’s for sure, a single spell made them disappear like smoke into thin air, but they reappeared moments later in another position, ready to be yet again, intimidating pains. Although generally they didn’t manage to attack, when they did it, it was usually by means of a spell that burnt their receiver.

Standing up, she side-stepped a spell very narrowly, and watched as it careered into the chest of her comrade and he fell to the ground gasping. Idiots! Lucky she hadn’t had to trust in them for much longer.

Having been busy preparing the second barricade as best as he could, Cyril Nimeras was caught unaware as the Death Eaters started to attack the walls. He froze momentarily, unsure of what to do, fear and anxiety cruising through his veins like a paralyzing potion.

But as the floor shook and a hole opened in the middle, letting the Death Eaters enter the third floor, the Briton grabbed his Willow wand, resolve etched in his face. "Stupefy!" The red light hit one of the masked, cloaked attackers in the chest, causing him or her to topple backward.

Another spell flew toward him, and the Prefect shouted "Protego!", flourishing his wand in a semi-arc. As the Spirito continued shouting rather harmless spells, such as Expelliarmus, Obscuro and Silencio, the Death Eaters attacked the wall, which started to crumble down.

Turning around, Cyril opened his mouth and screamed "Protego Durus!" before being engulfed by the falling desks transfigured to stone.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Belinda Metternich had been helping reinforce the left barrier, but they did not stay by it when they heard that the other barrier was being attacked. The Austrian girl ran as fast as she could toward her fellow students, her Maple wand raised. Instinctively pointing through one of the 'firing holes', she cried out "Incendio!!" The sound of the screams on the other side of the wall made her smirk.
But it wasn't time to celebrate, not by far. As she continued casting her favorite spells, an explosion shook the ground, and a hole opened in the middle of the corridor. Cursing in German as the Death Eaters started appearing from said hole, the Austrian proceeded to cast more spells, her wand weaving a macabre dance of pain.
"Expulso!" The targeted wand, belonging to a Death Eater, exploded, causing some of them to topple backward into the hole, their robes aflame. "Sectumsempra!" Somehow, seeing the female Death Eater's (her mask had fallen off) blood drenching her robe made her feel grimly pleased with herself.
"You'll pay for destroying Habsburg..." the Estremo muttered as, once again, a spell flew from her wand.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And, as for Nathaniel Baxter, the boy had been almost boring, since he really didn't know much about strengthening charms and the like, and he just lingered around the right barrier, his Ivy wand vibrating in his hand, although it could not wait to start kicking some Death Eater's butt.

Not that he wanted to be there, defending this school that had only housed him for about two months. But, oh well, fighting was the only option now. Grinding his teeth, the Californian pointed his wand through one of the holes of the barrier, ready to begin casting any spells he could think of.

And then, the Leale heard them. Death Eaters, rushing through the stairs. "Deprimo!" Somehow, the sound of bones being broken didn't make him feel happy. On the contrary, he felt like running away to vomit. He really was not made for this. Dueling, yes... but a battle? A battle where the only outcome was kill or be killed?

No, this was not for him... But seeing as he lacked much needed expertise in other areas of magic, such as Potion Making, Runes, or Healing, Mr. Baxter could only remain there and fight. And hope he would live to see the sun rise once more.

Well, no, he had not trained nearly all his life on how to swing a sword around to cause maximum damage. But who needed to anyway? The thing was double bladed, sharp as hell, and magically enchanted to bounce off all manner of spells! To top it all off, he had the preternatural speed of a vampire.

So as the wall came tumbling down, Daniel merely licked his lips in anticipation of the feast, and as soon as he was sure that it had finished falling--and he gave no thought as to who would be trapped beneath, dead or alive--he plunged into the fray of incoming Death Eaters. As he ran towards them, perhaps no more than a blur to anyone else looking, he put his wand safely away and unsheathed the sword, grinning like a lunatic.

The first Death Eater took three steps forward before realizing the his head had been cleanly and completely severed. Bummer, thought Daniel, he couldn't even take a sip off of that one! Then at least a couple of Killing Curses went his way, and he ducked. The enchantment on the sword might not have fended those off. But he pulled out his wand with his left hand and sent two pulses of deadly green light flying off towards the bastards who had already spotted him.

Practically now surrounded by the advancing tide of suicidal Death Eaters--tasty pawns--he slashed and cut everywhere, pressing his lips only for a moment to take a big gulp of blood, all the while using the poor bastard as a human shield. Then letting them go and advancing on the next one. But vampire or no, he couldn't last long in the veritable tsunami of evil that was advancing his way, and he already felt the "itis" of the blood meal pratically sedating him. He had to back up a bit before he got himself into any real trouble.

He found Rosanna again and the new guy they had met--a real cutie--and joined them with his wand, sheathing the magical sword. Since the other two were wildly shooting off a myriad of offensive spells, and sort of forgetting the defensive, Daniel decided to concentrate on protecting them with as much defensive magic as he knew how to cast. It wouldn't do for any of them to get killed just now.

But a minute was he with them, however, that a sick looking purple bolt penetrated his defenses and struck the Spaniard--Alessandro was his name, right? A fellow Spirito--scare in the face. The young one did not scream, just gasped and fell over backwards. Rosanna was the first to react and it seemed as if all the fury in her was washed away. She actually screamed but muffled it immediately, bending down over Alessandro's body and checking to see if he was alive. Daniel could have told her that he was, by the beating of the heart.

Then, crazy demonic birds! For Merlin's sake, a hole had been blasted through the floors, and now was when Daniel noticed. At the same time he heard Rosanna mutter. "No, no, please don't die!" And then the Leale girl yelled up at him, because it was frankly rather loud and chaotic in the corridor, "Cover me! We've got to take him to the Fifth Floor!"

Reluctantly, Daniel nodded. He would have rather have stayed here and drank some more blood. But he knew he'd already drunk his fill for quite a while. He followed Rosanna and the other boy, still casting protective magic, or alternatively blasting away a few Death Eaters with the most vicious and painful spells that he could remember from his long existence as a predatory creature.

And then he stumbled and fell over a couple of bodies. To his sick horror, he knew them quite well. Or nearly so, for he had never truly confided his secrets to the girl, nor been on the best terms with her. He'd just met the boy, and had hoped for so much more than just blasting away in the middle of an attack. But he was alive! Still alive.

Rosanna, however, was dead.

A Death Eater barreled towards him, streams of wicked light preceding him. Still stunned, but nonetheless capable of orchestrated action, Daniel deflected the spells and then tucked his wand aside into a pocket. The goddamn bastard was gonna get it. The sword was plunged into the man all the way up to the hilt, blood flowing so freely it seemed to drain the Death Eater in minutes.

"Socorro, por favor..." It was such a weak noise, coming from the Alessandro boy.

He'd come to, but was still severely wounded. Daniel saw the skin around his eyes red and raw, as if burnt. It was all beginning to swell and if the boy didn't get proper medical attention soon... He grabbed Alessandro by the waist and hauled him over one shoulder, leaving his right arm free to hold the sword and deflect whatever might come their way. Then Daniel headed towards the warp and to the Fifth Floor.

[[Okay... the three of their part in the attack plot is done with.]]

Things had just gotten considerably worse.

Since the battle had truly started, her mind had been drifting between two things. One was avoiding her own death and making sure to help hold back the Death Eaters to the best of her capabilities. The other was the information that Serapha Hellman had delivered to her.

She had said that the invading troops were after something. Some kind of power within the school. Those words rung a little too true within the Headmistress' thoughts. A power within the school that the Heirs were coveting.

...It couldn't be. But how could they have heard about that...?

The floor splitting into pieces illustrated the fact that she didn't have time to be thinking about that right then. Her initial reaction was 'oh shit, the warp', and as she had said she would her first objective was to defend it. Even shut it down if need be.

But as she mowed her way through the advancing Death Eaters, she couldn't help but notice her students that were being injured all around her. What if some wouldn't make it if they had to head up the stairs? The warp was a much needed transport, but also a great security risk.

Well. Only one choice, then. Breaking into a run, she put herself in between the warp and the horde before the two parties managed to meet, throwing up a shield spell and bringing down the surrounding enemies. She would man the gate so it could be open for any of the school's casualties.

Would she be able to keep it protected long enough? It was hard to say. The whole of Anima Eterna was under a race for time, and the winner was still up in the air.

But as she saw more and more of her students becoming injured or dead...she couldn't help but feel that their chance for victory was slipping away from them.

(( Continued from the Fifth Floor ))

Micah burst into the Third Floor, and into considerable more chaos than he had dared to imagine. There was a hole in the middle of the corridor! He immediately regretted being tied to the warp in order to keep it clear for his rescuers. But there was plenty that he could do from here. Plenty enough!

Standing pretty close to the warp, he begun shouting off spells. He saw the Headmistress had already cleared a swath through the Death Eaters approaching. Micah faced the other side and hurled everything he could imagine and came to mind, some spells quite painful and disabling, and others just crippling. Those that fell, he would summon their wands to him. He stashed three that felt the most capable in one of his pockets, and the rest he would snap either with his foot or a devastating curse.

As a rule of thumb, Micah Ravenstorm did not kill, but he was sworn to protect, even beyond whatever vowed there might have been to this school. He'd sworn to himself, and to his Hopi teachers, to the very ancestors of magic, if that oath could be counted in this chaos. That did not mean that he couldn't blast the fuckers into oblivion, so long as they died on their own.

When he felt the others come through--felt, more than saw--he shouted, "Quickly! Plenty of injured to your left! Go!"

Spell after spell always firing out of the tip of his wand, Blake was surprised to hear someone call his name. For a second he thought it might have been one of his friends, possibly even Hart, arriving to join the battle; however it didn’t take him long to realize that none of his friends, aside from Hart, ever called him by his last name. He’d almost fooled himself into the possibility that the voice had been that of his best friend and that it wasn’t coming from one of the hooded people when it spoke to him again; it was only then that he recognized its owner: Kajetan Sabelli.

What’s he doing here? Blake wondered, briefly allowing his deep blue eyes to shift to the older boy. It surprised the Lorent that Hart’s old tutor wasn’t off fighting with the Death Eaters, as he was convinced young Mister Kinsey was. Not being a friend of Kaj’s – if he even had any – nor a Death Eater, the news that the Sabelli had left the organization had never reached his ears.

A more effective spell. Blake had a good idea what Kajetan meant by that. Shockingly, the Estremo got the feeling that he was right. He’d always said that it was completely stupid to be afraid to kill those who wouldn’t think twice about ending your life, so why was he holding back now? It was true that he’d tried the spell out a few of times, albeit never on a human. Obviously, there was a difference between using it on illusions, insects and very small animals like mice compared to a human being. Could he bring himself to do it? Could he live with himself if he killed someone?

The thoughts were quickly shaken from his head as he was once again hit by the reality of the current situation. The wall was falling. Fortunately, he was able to get himself away from the falling stone without getting hit, although he noticed that not everyone was that lucky. Nevertheless, there wasn’t time to worry about that, seeing as Death Eaters were now starting to flood in, increasing the panic all throughout the corridor.

A flash a green light came dangerously close to the Canadian. His eyes moved quickly to the source of said spell, where he spotted a hooded and masked figure raising its wand. “Ava-” the Dearth Eater started to say.

Avada Kadavra!” Blake hardly even realized that the curse was coming from his mouth until he saw a green flash of light come out of his wand, hitting the hooded figure right in the chest. When the Death Eater’s body hit the ground, he suddenly felt sick. For a brief moment he tried to tell himself that he couldn’t possibly have done what he thought he had. His curse probably wasn’t strong enough to cause any real damage; his attacker was probably just badly injured, but would get up any second now. As he continued to stare at the lifeless body, Blake finally had to accept the truth: he’d killed a Death Eater.

Now, it wasn’t like it wasn’t possible that some of his other spells had already led to the deaths of other Death Eaters, but this one felt different. Knowing that the curse that he had used had directly killed someone was something entirely new, making him feel a few thousand times guiltier. What if that had been Hart? The Lorent was almost tempted to unmask the hooded figure, just to make sure; however, as the sights and sounds of spells brought him back to the present, he knew he didn’t have time. All the guilt and worry he was feeling had to be shoved to the back of his mind until the battle was over.

Things were much worse than they had imagined. It seemed that their delays may have cost them more than they were worth.

Earlier the Ministry had received a report of an attack on the school of Anima Eterna by the Death Eater forces from a girl that had escaped the battle. Worry has immediately been aroused, but with no way of truly seeing what was going on at the school without going there, things had been someone slow to the mark. There had been permissions to get, orders to receive.

They had eventually mobilized, but much later than what the school needed to be saved. It was reportedly almost two hours into the attack when the Ministry finally showed up on the grounds, and things did not look good. Death Eaters were swarming everywhere, and to all appearances the academy had already fallen. They were too late.

Large, strange vines curled around the building, and from their position on the fringe the army of Italian aurors could scarcely tell whether they were attacking or defending. It probably didn't matter at this point, but it was still their duty to make the Death Eater forces stand down. They needed to salvage anything they could.

The Ministry army swept inward, and the Heir's servants noticed immediately that reinforcements had arrived. However, for some reason they weren't as aggressive back as the opposing group may have suspected. Many of them actually appeared intent on fleeing. But why...?

Crack-whoooosh...

It all became apparent as the sound of an explosion in the air. Several eyes searched high for its source. Around the side of the school swept a gigantic, winged figured, blue scales glittering in the limited light of the twilight. It was a dragon, and from the looks of it, two people were riding it.

There was a moment of shock, before a body- ostensibly that of a Death Eater -was blasted through one of the higher windows, falling back down to the earth. There was a momentary surge of relief that flooded through the auror population. Anima Eterna was still fighting! All was not lost after all-

With that moral boost the aurors charged, sweeping in once and for all, sending many of the Death Eaters running. Apparently the school had been putting up enough of a fight that they knew the Ministry's arrival signalled a loss for them. But there were still many left to contend with.

The steady beat of wings from behind them cued their last piece of backup. An enormous Ukrainian Ironbelly dragon came sweeping in overhead- aid from the dragon sanctuaries themselves. Supposedly the rider hadn't been expecting that the school already had its own dragon force.

The resistance was still considerable, however, as they fought their way into the building. The first floor appeared to be largely demolished, apparently burnt from a fire that had since died out. While they had seen the bodies of many students outside, inside the Dark Lord's forces seemed to be lining the floor in surprisingly large amounts.

On the second floor they encountered many more Death Eaters, and along with a pile of their bodies there appeared to be a variety of dead animals. Some of the troops stopped to fight there while more plunged forward to the third floor, where they discovered the first obvious evidence of the school's resistance. In this case it was exactly that- a large amount of students and teachers fighting on the front lines.

There were many injured and dead from both sides, but it had continued on. God knew how long things had been going in that corridor. But at least now they had added support, at least enough to potentially drive out the Death Eaters once and for all.

Finally.

The attack on Anima Eterna really hadn't gone how she would have liked at all.

The forces still hadn't been able to move past the third floor in any substantial amount. The assault had meant to be short and concise, not some extended bloody bath that went on for hours. Blood bath she wouldn't have minded...provided her own soldiers weren't some of the wizards and witches being slaughtered.

It was very annoying, and Third was seriously considering what they were going to do about it. Presumably if they kept going at it the school would fall, but how much time did they have before another party intervened? Naturally the Ministry hadn't showed up yet, but they were bound to get their asses in gear eventually. It was just a matter of how long it would take...

It had apparently moved on to open combat in the third corridor, and for the moment she was satisfied. A messenger had reported this to her from her position outside. While she was undoubtably one of the three most formidable combatants in the battle, even she could not necessarily avoid being struck in a shower of Avada Kedavras. The last thing she needed was to be struck down by one of her own men.

It was because of this that Third was one of the first to see when the Ministry arrived. It was frustrating, but unfortunately her troops numbers had already been considerably diminished, and as the league of auror's swept through the field she already knew that it meant that the battle was going to have to end early.

But not before she let out her disappointment on a few aurors, she noted as she momentarily joined in on the attacking the new arrivals. With several languid sweeps of her wand, she angrily slew several of the arriving aurors as they began filtering into the building. It was upon the second dragon's arrival that she knew they would have to regroup.

With a sigh, she wandlessly triggered each and every one's of the Death Eater's Dark Marks, signalling that it was time to return to her and head out. They wouldn't be able to take Anima Eterna that day, and she had no interest in letting any more of her army die than was necessary.

They would return later. Next time they would succeed, she swore to herself.

With that, she led the retreating Death Eaters from the ground, Dissapparating as they fell out of the protected area. She cast one last, narrowed eyes glare back at the building before disappearing.

"Next time," she hissed.
