New School, New Beginning (Nao & Chi)
« Thread Started on Jul 6, 2007, 5:43pm »

((Saturday, May 11th, 2019; mid-afternoon))

It was an absolutely perfect May day, and truly the grounds of one Anima Eterna Academy for the Magically Brilliant had rarely looked so beautiful. Outside, it was neither too hot nor too cold, exactly what anyone who disliked extreme temperatures would want. The flowers that the rainy month of April had promised were beginning to bloom, causing a gorgeous apparition of colour all over the fields. The water was now just warm enough to swim in, and even if it was more convenient to use the indoor pool, nothing was quite like being outdoors in the lake. Students and professors alike were outside playing and relaxing – everyone was making the best of this lovely day.

On such an amazing day, what was brand new student Naoki Himamoto up to? Nao, the shortened form of his name that was often used, was busy going back and forth between the main corridor where his stuff had been dropped after sorting and his new Leale dorm. It was definitely not a fun trip from the First to the Fifth Floor, and every time the newly made Leale passed by the Spirito common room he began to sincerely wish he’d been placed in there. Curse him and whatever personality traits of his hand landed him in Leale!

As he traveled the same route and over again, occasionally spotting some interesting things or people, Naoki knew he couldn’t wait to explore this school. Beauxbatons had always seem so huge and amazing, but compared to everything that he’d already seen at Anima Eterna, even Beauxbatons didn’t seem so grand. It was then that the same feelings of homesickness (or perhaps school-sickness in this case) that he’d been fighting off for months hit him again – the castle where he had spent the greater part of the best four years of his life was gone forever; he could never go back, except to look at the ruins, and he was unlikely to ever see hid friends, those who has survived, again.

Shaking his head, the Fourth Year tried to remind himself of the fact that part of the reason he had insisted on coming here was to get past all those thoughts. He was at a new school where there were plenty of new people to meet and befriend, new rules to learn, new places to explore, and so many other new things that Nao couldn’t even think of them all. His arrival at Anima Eterna marked the beginning of his new life.

After what felt like hours, Naoki was left with only one thing to bring up: his most treasures possession, his drum kit. Unfortunately, it was his entire drum kit that had to be carried up those stairs, through the common room and into his bedroom. Great, this was going to take forever. Perhaps, if poor Nao had been thinking just a bit more clearly, he might have thought about the fact that, being a wizard and all, he could have used magic to at least help him carry some of this stuff. Also, if he’d had a decent look at the school’s layout, he might have noticed the very handy portals that would have taken him up to the higher floors. Ignorance may have been bliss, but it sure could be painful.

The youth had come up with one less than genius plan for carrying everything from his drum kit; Mister Himamoto had magically bound together all the pieces in the hopes of being strong enough to bring it all up in one go. His first attempts to lift it resulted in no more than a feeble sigh from the Jap. Deciding that it would be easier to push it (at least until he got to the stairs), that’s exactly what he started to do. Getting behind the jumble of drums, symbols, and stands, Naoki began to shove with all his might. Miraculously, it seemed to work, even if it was far from the most effective way of doing things.

Alas, the Leale reached the very thing he’d been dreading: the stairs. Now how was he supposed to take his drum kit up all those stairs? Glancing up and down the staircase that he’d already used many times that day, Naoki briefly imagined himself falling all the way down them in a pitiful attempt to carry his stuff. Great, now he was worried about being too weak and also about being killed by stairs.

Things may have seemed a bit hopeless – well, at least if the new student wanted to stick to his current plan – but the Himamoto had always been a very persistent boy. He was going to find himself a solution that didn’t involve walking up and down all those stairs half a dozen more times even if it took all day. Spotting a small girl walking by him, Nao decided that asking for help might be the best plan.

“Bon-” he started to say, quickly remembering that French was not the principle language of this school. “I mean Konni-” Darn it, wrong language again; this was the problem with being trilingual, he could never remember which to use. It didn’t help that, although he hadn’t really taken a proper look at this girl, she was clearly of Japanese origin. Of course, Nao knew that that didn’t definitely mean she’d ever lived in Japan or even spoke Japanese. Blaming both the official language at his old school and the race of his new acquaintance for his previous mistakes, he quickly blurted out the next greeting that came to mind: “Hello!” Feeling embarrassed at how excited he’d been to simply have used the right word, he quickly added in a calmer tone, “My name’s Naoki.”

Okay, she was bored. Terribly bored, in fact, like that kind of bored that weighs you down, makes your eyes water, and also makes you wish you had stayed in bed for at least five more hours that morning. And a bit lonely, to say the least, she was. Blake was off doing hell knows what at hell knows where, Cosetta had been intently reading some new book or another, and for once, Michi was regretting forcing Hart to do some of his homework. Sure, she had promised him a treat for both of them if he completed all of it, but that would take some time. And what exactly was she supposed to do until then?

Use up all the batteries in her CD player, that’s what.

The one ear phone that had been snugly placed inside the girl’s ear blared music almost a bit too loudly, occasionally falling out whenever the girl moved her head too much to the music. The other ear phone had been slung over her shoulder, but had eventually begun simply dangling in front of her as she walked all over the ancient castle, the sounds of her favourite Muggle and Wizarding bands alike being played into her ear.

She had just been about to go to the first floor’s portal to go back up to her dorm when she heard a voice call out to her in three different languages. The first she recognized simply because almost EVERYONE knew what bonjour meant (plus she had a half French boyfriend), the second she realized because of the first reason and the fact that she was a native speaker of the language herself (but apparently this person did not know this), and the third because she also knew THAT tongue, too. Jeez.

The girl spun on her heels to stare at the boy who had just called her name. He was standing about ten feet from her, in front of a jumble of… things that she assumed were a drum set that had been bound together. He looked just as Japanese as she herself - kind of short, dark hair, yellow skin, but he didn’t seem to have the right colour of eyes… she couldn’t tell their colour from over here, but they didn’t look right.

Well, at least his name was Japanese, so either he was adopted or her was a native of the island country. She smiled gently at his embarrassed look and pressed the pause button on her CD player, stuffing it into the small front pouch of her grey hoodie tank top that had red anchors patterned across it. Her ear buds, she stuck in her denim capris as she walked up to him and said sweetly, “Hey there, I’m Michi. Um, Michi Kinmori. Er, do you need some help?”

The girl really, truly did not notice the way this Naoki boy was looking at her. How could she notice anyone looking at her like that, when she already had a love interest? Ah, yes, Hart, who was doing his Charms homework six floors above the two of them. Well, at least now she had something to occupy her time until Hart finished his essay. Helping the, apparently, new student.

Naoki had already been blushing at his rather pathetic struggle to find the right language to use, but with one look at the girl the pink stains of colour on his cheeks became even more noticeable. She seemed to be about his age, even if she was a decent amount shorter than him, and that was definitely saying something for he’d never exactly been tall for his age. She was at least as Japanese as he was, if not more, although at the moment it was still anyone’s guess at to whether or not she was from Japan. And – the aspect that was causing the insane blushing on the part of the Leale – she was absolutely beautiful.

The female was dressed fairly casually and modestly, but from what Nao could see she was easily one of the prettiest girls he’d ever met. For a brief moment the Jap was allowing his mind to wonder what she thought of him; however it didn’t take him long to remember that he could allow himself to like a girl so much just because of looks – that was one lesson he’d learned the hard way.

His girlfriend back in Kyoto hadn’t been like any other girl he’d ever liked. She’d been incredibly attractive, and Nao had let himself believe that he was truly in love with her, even if in his heart of hearts he’d always known that his feelings for her were no where near as strong as those he had for Jacqueline. The youth had been able to ignore her obvious personality flaws and had had no difficulty believing the lies she told. However, the morning after the night that the Himamoto had thought proved the intensity of his love, he finally recognized her true colours as she broke up with him and leaving him feeling stupid, used, and even more alone than he had been before.

Could this girl just be another one like that, or was she a truly special person like Jacqueline? Naoki always believed the best in people, and was therefore already convincing himself that it was the latter, but he decided not to let himself think of her as any more than a friend until he learned more about her.

So her name was Michi? He recognized the Japanese name, and suddenly felt more convinced that she might have come from his home country. Maybe she still lived there – maybe she lived really close to him! Good old Naoki, he’d only just met the girl and already he was hoping that he’d get plenty of chanced to spend time with her and form an amazing friendship.

Nao was extremely happy when she offered her help seeing as he was not looking forward to asking for it, an event that could have turned out to be just as awkward as his greeting. “That’d be great, Michi,” he replied with a grin, already trying to use the name with a sense of familiarity. “I’m bringing my drum kit up to my dorm, but it’s really heavy and I’m not sure how to get it up all these stairs!”

“I’m in Leale,” he stated, deciding this was relevant information since she’d need to know where he was trying to go. “Just showed up today. I haven’t had a chance to really do anything other than get sorted yet, since I’ve been bringing all my stuff up all day.”

The teen hoped she’d be able to help, although he honestly wasn’t so sure. She was pretty small, so he doubted she’d be strong enough to help much with the carrying, especially since he was bigger than her and not getting anywhere. Well, maybe having been at the school longer than he had, she’d know some secret short cut or something that would make things at least a bit easier. If that was the case, then hopefully she wouldn’t think him an idiot for using the long way this whole time.

Michi couldn’t help but suppress a giggle when Naoki mentioned trying to get the ENTIRE drum set up the stairs. Was this boy blind and/or completely oblivious? He was a wizard for Merlin’s sake - unless he was a Squib, but still, hadn’t he noticed the portals down either end of the hall? There were more than a few much easier and less strenuous methods for getting his drum set up to the Leale dorms that simply lifting it all up the stairs and eventually falling down them and cracking one’s skull/neck because of it.

Though, despite this fact, Michi was quite intrigued; a drum set, hm? She and Blake had been seemingly forever searching for a drummer and a vocalist so they could finally start their own band, and so far, no good luck on their part. They had attended karaoke nights down at Magio Centro, even listened at a few dorm rooms and bathrooms to see if anyone was perhaps singing to themselves or playing, but still, they could find no one willing enough to do it. But, as the girl looked at the boy, maybe their luck had changed…

“Onegai, onegai, watashi nazekuru Chi,” (*!) she spoke in Japanese, hoping this boy would understand as she waved a hand. It would be great if he did, and he still lived in Japan, maybe even close to her. That way, she’d be able to communicate with him easily, practice better if he did decide to join their band - if he was good enough and Blake was okay with it.

“Er, right, sorry if you didn’t understand that,” she said, becoming a bit embarrassed for speaking a language she wasn’t even sure he knew. Though, hadn’t he started to call out to her in Japanese? Perhaps he did know, though, most everyone in the world knew “konni chi ha” (**!), and it may have just been him attempting to speak her native tongue. Whatever the case, she guessed she still had to help the poor boy, Japanese-speaker or not.

“Um… well, have you tried levitating it?” she asked, pulling out her wand and waving it slightly at him as if to say ’Um, duh, YOU’RE A WIZARD’ in the nicest way possible, “Or, if you’re not good at that, or you’re a Squib - no offense if you are, sorry! - you could always push them down the corridor to the portals on either side. They’ll take you anywhere you want in the building instantly, so unless you want a bit of an exercise levitating it all the way up to the Fifth Floor, I suggest we levitate it down the hall to the portals,” she concluded, adding with a laugh, “We might get in trouble if you leave any more of those scratches on the floor.”

It was true - it seemed the friction between the two objects as Naoki had pushed the drum set to the staircase had caused a few white, sandy looking scratches on the marble floor wherever the drum set had made contact. Michi smiled softly at the horrified and pale look that had appeared on the boy’s face as he stared slightly open-mouthed and nervous at the scratches.

“Oh, don’t worry, Naoki. They’ll be able to fix them easily,” she said with a wave of her hand in the direction of the damaged floor. “Er, and can I call you Nao or Ki or something, because I just can’t get used to saying peoples’ full first names, unless they’re one syllable,” The girl smiled slightly, bowed deeply at first, then held out her hand - her own little mix of two worlds.

{*Please, please, call me Chi.
** THAT IS HOW YOU SPELL IT. SERIOUSLY.}

So much for not feeling like an idiot. Naoki had known there was something he was overlooking in the spell department that would have made transporting all his possessions up to his dorm a lot easier. Sure, he still might have risked some kind of horrible incident levitating his drum kit up the stairs, but it definitely would have been much smarter than carrying everything. Why oh why did he have to make a fool of himself in front of the first person he met?

Nao was fond of nicknames. He never knew why, but for some reason calling a person by something other than the name that had formally been given to them just made it feel like you were a lot closer and better friends. They weren’t quite as popular in French, as the youth had discovered upon trying to call Jacqueline Jackie, so he was more than happy for an excuse to use them here. “OK, Chi it is!” he exclaimed merrily, not even realizing right away that the girl had just spoken in his mother tongue. “And yeah, you can call me Nao.”

As Chi apologized in case he hadn’t understood, he finally clued in to the language she had just used. “You speak Japanese too,” he said excitedly. “Are you from Japan? I am. I live in Kyoto with my mom, my dad, and my two annoying little siblings.” A certain fondness could be detected in his voice as he mentioned his brother and sister, a grin appearing on the Fourth Year’s face as he barely resisted telling her an amusing anecdote about them. He could save his many stories for another time.

“Levitation! Ack, how could I forget?” he said to no one in particular, looking even more flustered than before. “Wingardium Leviosa!” The still nicely mashed together drum kit lifted from the ground. The short boy smiled nervously at his new friend who he could only hope didn’t think he was completely stupid. Of course, even if she didn’t think he was dumb, she’d probably already realized why he wasn’t in Spirito.

The levitating drums fell to the ground with a crash, almost hitting Michi, at the mention of the scratches he’d left on the ground. Great, not only had he embarrassed himself by his stupid pushing of objects that he easily could have levitated, but he’d also damaged the school in doing so. At least Chi seemed sure that it wouldn’t be a problem, unless she was lying and just trying not to upset him. Either way, he was already really starting to like her, especially since she’d been kind enough not to laugh at his stupidity.

Her bow and handshake cross thing was rather bizarre, and for the first few seconds Nao wasn’t quite sure how to react. Had she done this on purpose? Was it some kind of weird greeting that people did around here? For a moment he almost laughed, but since she hadn’t made fun of him in the least about his muggle way of moving in, he figured the least he could do was be polite about this. Going with the flow, Naoki imitated her; he bowed down and grabbed her hand in his and gave it a gentle shake.

“I’m very pleased to meet you Chi and thanks so much for your help,” he said as he released her hand and stood upright once more. With a swift flick of his wand and the muttering of an incantation, his drum kit was in the air once more. He wasn’t sure whether or not his new friend intended to join him on his journey to the Fifth Floor, but he figured he might as well ask her to come for two reasons: one, he didn’t want to get lost or do any other stupid thing, and two he’d appreciate her company. “So, mind leading me to these portals?”

Michi smiled gently at the flustered boy. Really, she would’ve appreciated some help around on her first day - she had wandered around quite a while before actually finding her house common room, and thankfully she had noticed the portals and used them instead of being like this unfortunate new arrival whom she had already made feel very badly about his previous methods of getting his luggage up to the dorms.

The girl grinned as Nao grew excited over her being from Japan. “Uh-huh! I don’t live in Kyoto, but I‘m kind of close. I was born in Tokyo, and when I was five my dad moved me to London, and ever since he… er, I moved to my grandmother’s home in the country between Kobe and Kyoto,” She laughed a bit, trying to cover for almost mentioning her father’s ill fate. “I still haven’t really gotten used to the temperature difference between London and Kobe, heh.

“Anyway, little siblings? I wish I had one of them. Mind if I steal one? Or both? How old are they?” Michi asked sweetly. Siblings seemed like the greatest thing in the world to her. Most people who had them claimed they were annoying and that they’d freely give them away, but Michi would’ve given anything for just one, and this boy had two little siblings, and parents! The girl couldn’t help but feel completely jealous of this boy’s family, even if they were terrible to him, which it didn’t look like. Of course, Michi knew that she wasn’t getting siblings ever - you needed parents for more siblings, and really, no one adopts almost fifteen-year-olds.

The Kinmori let out a little squeak as the drum set almost landed on top of her body. She jumped clear out of its way, staying near to the other Jap as she stared a bit pale-faced at the thing that could’ve crushed her tiny body. The girl could just see herself lying beneath it, with a nice pool of blood surrounding her… that experience had not been fun, she concluded, glancing at the other student who looked just as pale faced as herself. It was only then that she realized why he had dropped the drums - the scratch marks she had mentioned.

“Really, seriously, don’t worry about those, okay? I’ve seen people do worse damage to parts of the school, believe me. They always manage to fix it - don’t worry,” Michi continued to try and reassure the boy that no permanent harm had really come to the grand looking floor, which it really hadn’t, even if he thought she was lying.

Even if she had seen a laugh somewhere in the twitch of the boy’s mouth at her bow/handshake greeting, Michi too was beginning to like her new acquaintance. She could tell he wasn’t a complete idiot since he had had sense enough to bind the entire drum set together, and an idiot could hardly know three languages, one of which was one of the most complicated in the world and another that was extremely difficult to read and write. He also seemed very nice and decent, not to mention he might just be the drummer that she and Blake had been searching for. He also seemed to have this thing about him that made him seem as warm and welcoming to even a stranger like her.

“Of course I’ll take you to them. What did you think I was gonna do, ditch you here?” the Japanese girl said with a small laugh. She motioned for him to stick next to her, and together they set off down the hall side by side with the drum set hovering in front of them. “So, you’re in Leale then, eh? I’m in Spirito, and now I shall crush you with my fabled mental brain capacity of DOOM!” she said in a dramatic voice, grinning up at her taller fellow native. Already she was treating him like he was Blake or Cosetta or Rachel!

“Anyway, so you, er, play the drums?” she asked, “How long have you played? Are you good? Stage-fright, yes or no?” It was almost annoyingly obvious what the girl was already asking. She hoped she hadn’t asked too early, and that the boy didn’t get freaked out and never speak to her again, but she just had to ask - this was the second to last piece of their band, possibly!

Naoki was starting to like Michi more and more with every passing moment. Although she hadn’t voiced her thoughts, he was quickly beginning to realize that she didn’t think he was a complete idiot for in spite of his momentary stupidity. She seemed friendly and intelligent, and was laughing with him not at him. She appeared to be a really great person; Nao couldn’t wait to get to know her better.

He couldn’t help being a bit disappointed that she didn’t live in Kyoto, but where she did live was a lot closer than he had expected his new friends from the Italian school to live. Saying she’d lived in London explained the accent; although, when he thought about it, he realized that his English probably sounded more or less like that because his tutor had been from England, even if Chi’s was no where near as heavily accented as his.

Perhaps a more perceptive person than the Leale might have picked up on the fact that she wasn’t obviously trying to cover something up, with her sentence that cut off randomly and her awkward laugh. Fortunately for Chi, even when he was paying attention, he’d just never been the type to pick up on such things. “Ha! I remember when I went away to school for my first year, by the time I got used to the difference it was time to go home for summer vacation,” he said, laughing at the thought of all the great memories from that year. “Of course, temperature’s one thing, but it took me just as long to remember that I wasn’t in Japan and that most people didn’t speak Japanese!”

“You want my little monsters?” he asked with disbelief, a smile always plastered on his face. “You don’t need to steal them; I’ll give them to you, free of charge. Actually, I’ll pay you to take them,” he added with a laugh. “Ah, but I’d miss them. Who else would attack me until I wake up every morning, eat my desert, play pranks on me, and steal my stuff? Actually, I could probably live without all those things, but I still love my little brother and sister.” For a second his smile left his face, as a strange thought passed through him: he gotten quite used to being around them in the past few months; he was going to miss the little devils while he was here.

“How old are they?” he repeated, trying to count in his head. “Well, they’re exactly nine years younger than me, so that means…” He paused. “Oh yeah, they just turned six.” Nao couldn’t believe he’d almost forgotten that he and his twin little brother and sister, who shared his birthday, had just turned another whole year older. “Wow, they’re getting old. They wouldn’t like me saying this, but I still picture them in diapers, back when we couldn’t tell the difference between Lei-Lei and Kimmy! One time when I got to dress them, as a joke I dressed them in each others clothing – my parents didn’t realize what I’d done for a whole hour!”

Here he was already, telling her stories about his life like he’d always known her. A large grin appeared on his face as he heard Chi give a giggle. From her jealousy at the mention of Takashi and Kimiko, he could only assume she was an only child. Nao remembered the days when he was one; even if they’d been peaceful, he only now realized that life had been a lot less fun back then. He might complain about them from time to time, but the Himamoto really did love his family.

So she was in Spirito? He was a bit disappointed that she wasn’t in Leale with him, but as far as he knew other than teams, sleeping quarters, and house tables in the dining area there weren’t many places where they were separated from those of other houses. At this moment he wasn’t familiar with the characteristics that marked members of each house, but from her joke he understood that that one was probably for the cleverest of students, which explained why he wasn’t in there. Naoki was far from stupid, and he always did fairly well in school, but he’d never been the best in any of his classes, not that he’d ever minded. If he was the strongest student, who would he get to help him with his homework?

He laughed with her at her joke, and the dramatic way in which she’d said it. He was glad that she was already so comfortable talking to him – it had to mean she too already considered him a friend. If he’d known the traits of his house, he would have sworn from this behaviour that she would have made a good Leale, although he couldn’t be sure that she was like this with everyone she met. In a strange way, Naoki kind of hoped she wasn’t, because that made their newly formed friendship even more special.

Suddenly and rather unexpectedly, Chi started shooting question after at him. He didn’t quite know the reason for this interest of hers in his music; however, since it was one of his favourite topics, he wasn’t about to complain. Maybe she played too, that’d be pretty exciting. He’d never had a friend who was equally interested in that hobby of his and it would really be great to finally have one.

“Umm… I don’t know how long I’ve played for,” he answered, trying to think of which Christmas it was that he got his very first drum set. “Maybe about seven years? And I dunno if I’m any good, but people have told me I am” he added shyly, the pink colour reappearing on his cheeks. “Oh, and I have no stage-fright. Well, almost no stage-fright. Like, I might get a bit nervous before a show, but I’ve never fallen apart on stage. Can’t imagine being that afraid of the crowd! Although during one concert with my school’s band one of the trumpets passed out, but I think that was from lack of oxygen, not fear.”

Finally looking up again to where they were headed, he spotted the portals not to far off. His drum kit had been levitated far enough ahead of them that he now placed it right next to them, although it was anybody’s guess which one would take him to the Fifth Floor. Naoki wasn’t ready to head up just yet, mainly because he was afraid that once he was that far they’d go their separate ways – not that he didn’t have things to do (he still had all his stuff to unpack), but he wasn’t ready to say good bye to his new friend just yet.

“Do you play any instruments?”

How stupid is it?
For all I know you want me too
And maybe you just don't know what to do
Or maybe you're scared to say: "I'm falling for you"

I'm a lot like you so please
Hello, I'm here, I'm waiting
I think I'd be good for you
And you'd be good for me

Michi had to admit, not only was this guy quite the friendly type -- no wonder he had been placed in Leale -- he also seemed very open and willing, and a personally funny sort of boy as well. And energetic, but one had to expect that from a drummer. She giggled and laughed involuntarily at all the right parts of his short anecdotes, somehow almost drawn to him in a way she couldn’t exactly explain herself. If she hadn’t already been seeing Hart and focused on him and him alone, she might’ve probably already been trying to get the boy to ask her out, maybe even asking him out herself, yet she had not even a fleeting thought of this. He seemed more like a brother type to her, and really, though, she couldn’t seem to stop adopting those.

Seven years and no stage fright? This was almost like striking gold! He had to be better than he claimed he was, too, she could tell by the pink blush on his face that he was only trying to be modest. But just in case, she still had to make sure he was good enough for a band. And hey, he had already had some practice in a school band - not necessarily the same thing, but close enough. Now all he had to do was agree with her once she explained and say the magic “y” word, and solve half of her and Blake’s problems.

“Really? None? What I’d give to have none of that,” she replied to him, grinning, “And me? Yeah, I play. Guitar, and I’ve just recently started learning bass. Electric bass, that is.” She thought a moment on her bass skills. Dang, she really needed to practice more often…

“So, er… I was wondering…” she began, quite unsure of how to put all of this. It was certain she’d remember doing this later on, mostly as embarrassing. “Well, basically, my friend Blake -- er, Blake Lorent, that is -- and I… We’ve kind of started a band, and yet it’s still not really one yet… There’s just me on bass and him on guitar, and we’re really in need of some other members… I was wondering if maybe you could play for us both sometime, just to see if you’d, er, ‘qualify’?” By the time she had finished stuttering awkwardly over her proposition, they had met up with the Japanese boy’s drum set at the portals.

“Oh, just a second.” Repeating the Levitation Charm on the drum set, she grabbed the boy’s wrist and lead him through one of the portals, the drum set trailing behind them. In a split second, both the students were standing in the Fifth Floor corridor with a bunch of drums. Michi could see the entrance to the Leale dorms not far off. She looked back up at the boy.

“Do you need time to think about it, or… yeah?” she asked timidly, “Because Blake and I’d like to know soon.”

If Nao had been able to know what Michi was thinking about him, it was hard to say exactly how he would have reacted. On one hand, he would have been thrilled to know that she already liked him so much, but as far as her thinking of him as a ‘brother type’? Although he was still trying to convince himself that he couldn’t allow himself to want anything more than friendship until he got to know her a bit better, more and more he was starting to something want more – something that definitely did not include sibling type feelings.

“Guitar and bass? Awesome,” he said, always smiling at the beautiful Spirito. Naoki figured she was pretty good at guitar, why else would she have decided to challenge herself by picking up a second instrument? Although he supposed guitar and bass were pretty similar, so she was probably already almost as good at that as she was at guitar. “I’ve always thought they look hard. Then again, I think most instruments look pretty hard! Drumming kind of just comes naturally to me, but I’ve tried a couple other instruments and, well, let’s just say I wasn’t encouraged to ever touch them again.” The boy shuddered as he remembered his one day on the clarinet – sure, he’d been able to get sound out, but nothing more than incredibly painful squeaks.

It took about a minute for her to ask, and then another for him to actually understand what she’d said, but once he’d figured it out, Nao’s smile grew even more. She wanted him to be in her band? It took a great deal of effort on the Himamoto’s part not to jump for joy. This would be a great opportunity for him; he’d be able to put his musical talents to good use – and likely improve a lot – as well as make new friends. Naoki already thought of Chi as a friend, and he was positive that, with time, he and this Blake could become good friends.

They were at the portals before he’d gotten around to replying, not that the Leale was going to let that stop him from finally happily telling Michi that he’d be delighted to play for them. However, before he’d found the right words, he was being pulled through one of them, and within only a second he was standing in the same hallway he’d been going to all day. “Wow!” he gasped, almost forgetting that he’d been asked a question until his new friend started asking again.

“I’d love to!” he replied happily, ecstatic at the site of the grin this answer created on Michi’s face. He really hoped he’d be good enough to become a full time part of their band. As he began to feel a little bit worried, he vowed to practice a piece to play for them next time he got a chance. “But for now, I’m going to head back to my room. I still have to unpack my stuff, and I’m a little tired.”

Without even thinking about it, Nao started pulling Miss Kinmori into a huge. The moment he had her wrapped in his arms, he realized how awkward a thing it was to do when he’d just met someone. Blushing like mad, he pulled away from her quite quickly. “Thanks so much for the help,” he said, still seeming quite embarrassed about what he’d just done. “It was really nice meeting you. Umm… I’ll see you soon!” Levitating the drum kit once again, the boy who was still quite pink in the cheeks rushed off down the hall and into the Leale Common Room.
