The Forboding Note -- {{Kiwikins}} « Thread Started on Feb 18, 2007, 8:27pm »
||Monday, Febuary 19th||
There it was. Scribbled on the corner of Riley Miller’s Transfiguration essay was a small note from Professor Ombre, asking him to stop by her classroom after all of his classes were over with. Why? He hadn’t a clue, but he could say he was a bit wary of this little visit. After all, he was doing perfectly find in Transfiguration, but he had his suspicions of Ombre’s alliances.
The eldest Miller had made sure his wand was where he could easily grab it, just incase something happened. He wanted to be able to protective himself, especially after his little visit by Miss Lafayé. He had nearly kissed his life good-bye right then, and he wasn’t going to come that close to death again. Oh no, he was being a lot more careful. He wouldn’t let someone catch him off guard and get to him like that little bitch had.
It wasn’t that Riley was afraid of death, oh no, he just wasn’t ready to die. He had so much more to do in his life, so much more to prove. He had apologies to make and friendships to mend. He had loved ones to hug and things to learn. He was too young to die. He had so much more to live for.
Shrugging a black leather jacket of his grey shirt, he stuffed his wand into his jean pants, running and hand through his hair as he hurried from his common room, his mind reeling. So much had been happening lately. His family didn’t talk to him much anymore and he had hurt one of the people he cared about so very much. He had lost a piece of him when he lost that friend, one of the only people who could still make him laugh and smile. He felt horrible for what he had done, though he knew he had to until he found someway to get back out without worrying about those that he loved.
His footsteps echoed in the empty corridors, his feet carrying him down several flights of stairs to where he was to meet the Professor. He didn’t have a clue, really, what she could want with him. Was he just going to get threatened more? Was she going to ridicule him on something he actually did well? Maybe it was complete opposite. Maybe she was going to congratulate him on his well-written essay. Riley doubted that.
When he reached the door to her classroom, he noticed it was cracked already, and so, he didn’t bother knocking at all. Instead, the dark-haired boy simply pushed the door open, peering into the dimly lit room. Well, if that wasn’t creepy in itself. The whole room held a foreboding sense, causing Riley to second guess his agreement to come meet his Head of House, but Riley didn’t back out. No he didn’t.
The Estremo continued in, not showing a hint of fear in his features. He continued to stand tall and proud. He wouldn’t reveal a weak spot to the professor, oh no. Riley was much smarter than that. He knew how to handle himself around the enemy. After all, he had been a Death Eater, and a skilled and trained one at that.
He glanced around once he reached the front of the classroom, not feeling the need to mutter a word. Instead, the Estremo simply just leaned against one of the desks, his arms folded across his chest.

“I’m not satisfied.” The woman insisted again, “How many times must I have to explain it? It’s that simple. Not convinced.” She had much more to say to him, but as his position was of more importance than hers, Daeva was careful to watch her tongue, although was firm in getting her message across.
“He was once one of our quickest learners and a ridiculously talented one, you know that. I know that, I was the one monitoring the progress of his group!”
Daeva stopped reclining in her chair and picked her boots up off her desk and sat forward, palms splayed warningly on the table in front of her, eyes meeting his sternly. “And that makes him worthy does it, Lars? You may be foolish enough to accept anyone who rejoins us with open arms, but I am not convinced in the slightest.”
“It’s unnecessary, you’ll cause a scene. I know how you work Daeva, it needs to be well covered.” The two glanced at each other, a moment where they returned to their teenage years and the position with one another that had once been established. But it had almost been as formal as this meeting, they only wanted something from the other, not necessarily the individual. Or at least was the case in the Transfiguration Proffessor, who wound around her finger, a lock of curly hair that cascaded either side of her.
“Listen. Again. I want blood. Do you hear that? That boy trampled on our loyalty! Betrayed our Leaders, the legend of their father, our Master! And the fact he got away practically unscathed disgusts me, this time I want a contract. And I’m only settling for one in red.”
Finally Lars pushed himself off the wall he was leaning on and wandered over to her, looming from his height above her. “Tread your ground carefully, Ombre. You said you wanted only one thing from me, what?”
“One of your students.”
“What for?”
She shrugged and leant back, “Just to be there to finish the job if he isn’t really one of us. They just need to remain hidden until then, I’ll provide accurate protection.” Then, with a challengingly smug glance, Daeva rolled her shoulders, “If your faith is true, they won’t need to get their hands dirty. However…” and she left that hanging.
“I’ll contact you later, foolproof the plan.” Lars grunted, striding towards the fire.
“You know I never leave anything open. You realize this pulls you into my plot directly, yes?”
“Yes. But I’ll be the innocent one if it falls to pieces.” He turned, his flowing black cloak outlining a perfect body that made the woman bite her lip with memories, smirking. Lars lifted the silence spell they’d installed so no one would here them and then stepped into the grate and disappeared.
“That all depends if you’re up to your part.” Daeva whispered scathingly. The cheek of the asshole! She sat back and glanced at the time, counting the seconds slowly. Three, two, one… ahh, perfect timing. Daeva watched the young man cross the room towards her and chided Lars, the boy he’d had to inconspicuously watch for a few years was not the man that stood before her, it was obvious.
She let the silence linger for a long time, holding her students gaze with a dangerous smile lighting her lips. Daeva pushed away the annoyance she felt at his rude entry, trying to convince herself that he was like her. But she couldn’t give him such a beautiful title, not yet, not until he’d signed.
Standing up suddenly, the raven-haired teacher smiled and spread her arms wide. “Ahh, Riley. Thank you for taking the time out to come and see me.” She walked away from her desk and towards the empty fireplace, where her Kestrel was perched, head buried in its feathers. Daeva stroked its head with a finger, glancing back towards Riley, “I wanted to talk to you about two things.”
The bird awoke and fixed its golden, staring eyes right at the other occupant her mistress was talking to. “This is Altaira. First off! Is your excellent marks in my class, I am very, very proud of your effort and work!” Motioning to the chair that had been placed in front of her desk and on the small platform, Daeva nodded, “Please. Sit. "
Wandering back, with Altaira still staring at Riley, she sat opposite and smiled. It was amazing how invitingly warm the woman looked, motherly and loving to an extent. She extracted a few assignments from the top of her pile and placed them in her lap. After a few seconds she glanced up and with that same smile said tonelessly,
"And if you wouldn't mind helping me iron out a week inkling I have. You're a good boy, you wouldn't mind, would you?" Of course it was not a question, it was a repeated order, Riley would do it whether he damn well liked it or not. "You see, there are a few papers here I want you to look over with me..."
Selecting the four from her lap, with a quick glance Ombre tried to decipher whether or not her attempts at luring him into a false sense of security was working. Naturally, she'd hope and expect not, but even the smartest have their off periods. Daeva spread them all out on her desk and linked her fingers, resting her chin on the top.
With a sickeningly sweet smile and an intense gaze, the Professor cocked her head, "I suppose you recognise all four names, yes? You should, having had spent a great deal of your recent Summer with them. All four were guests at your families home, am I right? Not that we're here to discuss anything of the like. It just helps to start with familiarity. I'm trying to learn about bias..." The Professor shrugged, "All this will help me imensely."
The names of two Spirito's and two Leale's were written at the top of each collection of the pages, each one showing a mark, only one of them (quite expectedly to Daeva) showed a 'T' in large red ink for the mark of 'Troll.'
"Before we start, just out of curiosity, how much do you associate with -and rank- these people. Much? Alot? What?"

Well, this was odd. So, so very odd. Professor Ombre was being… nice? She was complimenting him, being warm and friendly with him. It was almost like he felt out of place. Since when was this professor so nice? Especially when in her classes she was so very strict? It confused him, but Riley was skeptical, knowing not to trust her just yet.
“Thank you, professor, I try.” He muttered softly at her compliment on his marks. Not yet was he ready to inform her that he was an animagus. Perhaps she already knew, if his suspicions of her being a Death Eater were true. Either way, he wasn’t going to risk being reported. After all, he wasn’t registered and only two people at Anima Eterna knew of his ability.
The bird was rather eerie to the Estremo as it opened its golden eyes to stare at him. For a moment, he had his own staring contest for the bird, his mind no longer focused on what the professor was saying. He simply stared until he was forced to blink and look away when he was invited to sit.
His brows raised but he didn’t say a word as he glanced to the chair raised by the small platform. Riley didn’t trust it one bit. Ombre was being far too friendly with him. He would wait a bit before letting his defenses down, if he did at all. He couldn’t help but be constantly watching his back and questioning everything that someone else asked him.
Nodding, Riley agreed, not that he had much of a choice. Sure, it seemed like he had the option, but the rather intelligent boy was well aware that he in fact, did not. It was a command, just nicely put. And so, he made his way toward the desk, ignoring the chair as his eyes fell down onto the papers on her desk, reading over four names that were oh-so familiar to him.
His head lifted, though, brows furrowed beneath his dark, long locks. How on Earth did Ombre know that they had visited his home over the break? Of course, this only raised his suspicions even more; the part of his guard that had started to fall was now shooting back up as his eyes lingered on hers for a moment before he nodded softly. “Yes, I know them.” He said simply, his eyes falling back onto the papers.
The grades on the papers were very different. Two were rather high, both those of Spiritos. It didn’t come as a surprise to Riley, for both of them were intelligent beings. The other one was slightly lower, but yet effort was clearly shown in it. The last one, well… wasn’t too terribly hot. Riley had to mask the small smirk that wanted to form as he eyed the big red ‘T’ on the paper of his ex-best friend, Todd Draumur.
“I used to associate with all of them quite a lot.” He informed the woman. “But things have changed and I have sought better company than them.” He paused, glancing at Razel’s paper. “This girl is my brother’s fiancée. She’s highly intelligent and isn’t a hard one to teach. Robert, my sister’s boyfriend, is the same way. Rose is just a delight, very agreeable.” His eyes drifted to the last page and he sighed softly.
“Draumur is a dumb prat.” He snapped, his eyes flickering upward. “She’s a waste of time to teach, if you asked me. I would have just demanded her go to a lower class months ago.” Riley shook his head, giving a small chuckle. “A hopeless case, if you ask me.”
Perhaps Riley had already said too much by explaining his relationship with the four. He hadn’t really expected Ombre to bring up such a thing, but for a moment, he didn’t see what harm could be done in providing this information. After all, he had a strong feeling this was not the real reason he had been called here this afternoon.

“You're welcome, Miller. Your last assignment was particularly exceptional as I've already said. What are you considering for a future occupation? Have any ideas? You have little less than half a year after all.”
Altaira didn’t let up on the staring even after the boy had looked away, ruffling her feathers briefly, apparently not happy with the fact Riley had stared at her for such a long time in return.
Ombre fluttered her eyes in mock surprise cocking her head slightly, eyes never leaving the younger male, thankful that he didn’t try to deny knowing them. That would have put the cherry on top of one big cake of shit. “Used to associate? Past-tense, that’s curious. Very curious.” The Professor shifted, lounging in her high-back chair, gently stroking a knot in the wood. Sought better company? That made her smile, he only sought it because he had to.
Just like he’d have no option but to accept her arrangement.
She was a little bored with the explanations of the first two, there wasn’t too much personal-influence in there, more like given facts. The third was more pleasing, and Ombre wondered whether or not Riley understood how much more he gave away when he included ‘just’ and ‘very’ in his sentence to describe Rosetta. And finally the fourth was delivered and it both pleased and irked her. Was he insolent enough to not think she’d considered moving that idiot of a girl?
“Mmmm, she is an absolute waste of space. It would be good to do without that Leale in any class at all actually, and perhaps I should shift Rosetta too. I had generally hoped that advanced students would get little less that top marks. Leales are the thickest bunch of people I have ever met, its sad they insist on grouping them together. Everyone should stick to their own kind. Do you agree?”
But Daeva had asked a question and it had been delivered.
Checking the time on the wall behind him -she always had the clock positioned behind her students so she knew how to tell who was eager to get out of class, thus letting them out last- it’s skeletal finger reminded her she may as well stop toying with her food. Even though she hadn’t had much to play with.
“So… why is it that if these people are apparently well-liked, according to my interpretations and sources, that you decided to seek out better company?” Now she was asking him what Riley didn’t see in them. Hopefully they’d be somewhere along the same lines as hers, he didn’t exactly reek an air of dishonesty in anything he’d said, something of which Daeva was usually quick and sensitive to picking up.
Trying to look patient but wanting to uncharacteristically cut to the kill, Ombre awaited the answer.
“That was off-topic. Getting back to the people we were discussing, how do you think any of them would take to…” Daeva paused and looked down briefly, bringing out a deck of cards with the Death Eaters mark on the top on a background of black. “…being responsible for the lives of the other three?”

The future? Well, right now the future just seemed fucked up. He didn’t know what he was going to do. Right now, all it seemed like he was going to do was whatever the Death Eaters asked of him. He hated it, but at this point, his life and the life of others seemed to be on the line, and he wasn’t about to risk the latter. He would obey and he would succeed, but he wasn’t about to tell this to Professor Ombre.
“I was actually thinking about being a Professor.” He lied softly, glancing at her desk and then to her eyes. “I have always found Transfiguration an interesting subject. I wouldn’t mind teaching it and one day I would like to become an animagus.” Well, he had already achieved the second goal.
His eyes never left her when she seemed to question his words. His browed furrowed every so lightly. What did she know? There was no way he was about to trust this women. She was hiding something. He was certain of it.
Riley chuckled softly, still feeling a hint of anger at the insult being thrown at Todd. No one, except him of course, was allowed to insult Todd. Why would you want to insult her? She was a great girl. Todd was nice and caring. She didn’t give a shit who you were. She tried to be you friend either way, unless, of course, you were a total asshole, like Riley had purposely been to her in attempt to shove her away.
The dark-haired boy only nodded. “But Rosetta deserves to stay.” He said in an almost daring voice. “She deserves credit for trying, now doesn’t she?” This was Rosetta they were talking about. She was the obedient girl, who was simply a delight to be around. There was always a smile on her lips, which usually brought a smile to others. It had to Riley, at least, even if the little blond didn’t know it.
At her question, he gave a light shrug. “I just enjoy new things.” He lied, and it was quite obvious. “I don’t trust people very well,” His eyes met hers for a moment, “So it isn’t hard to just move on from ‘friends’ to ‘friends’.” Unfortunately, at the moment it seemed he didn’t have any friends. He just sort of drifted away from everyone, not feeling he was safe to anyone he actually cared about.
Riley eyed the deck of cards warily, knowing that mark all too well. He knew she was up to no good from the start. He had a feeling it was a good thing he hadn’t taken a seat in that chair. Who knew what the hell it could have done to him. Right now, though, he was highly worried about her question.

"A professor?" She commented quietly, running her eyes up and down, smirking. Professor? Huh, she supposed so, to a certain extent. There was a brief flicker of rivalry, she didn't like other teachers, and Transfiguration Professors were a straight out no go. But that was of course if he didn't 'accidentally' disappear during his time with the Death Eaters.
Oh god, was he really such a staunt little battler? There was barely any reaction to her comment on the Leale's. She really hated when they were defensive like that, it made things that much more harder and tiring in trying to decide the victim. But it often lead to a greater explosion, and that was all that counted for it.
Glancing at the seat, Daeva cleared her throat, leaning forward with the pack of cards seated between her palms which were flat on the desk. Playtime was over and the cat -in an almost literal sense- was clawing to be let out of the bag.
"Don't you now..." she mused quietly, dangerously, almost like a purr. "Perhaps we should lie a few more facts out on the table, yes?" She stood and shook out her cloak, lifting her chin proudly. "I'm going to indluge you in a secret of mine, naturally, I have manners of which to prevent your ever revealing to anyone else. Chiefly being I am more advanced in any manner of magic than you are."
Holding her left fist up, Daeva let her billowing sleeve fall down her ivory-tonned arm and smirked, relishing the fact she didn't have to hide what was on her wrist for the first time in what felt like centuries. "As I'm sure you're aware, wherever there are young Death Eaters, there is generally someone to monitor progress?" The Professor ran a hand through her hair and sat back down slowly on the edge of her chair, crossing her legs.
"Now. You can relax now darling, you're among family. However, there's one catch. You haven't been a very loyal little boy, what you did was very, very naughty." Daeva smiled at Riley and motioned to the chair, "Again, I say you might want to consider taking a seat before I actually explain the question more fully."
She paused a few seconds, watching as Altaira glided across the room and landed on her perch just before the doorway, fanning her plumage as if daring him to make a move towards the door. "So... do you think it would be easier for the situation to be 'one for all' or 'all for one'?"
Sighing, actually sick of being so cryptic, Daeva rolled her eyes in case he still didn't see what she was getting it. Usually she enjoyed more toying and taunting, but she was just as annoyed as when Lars had been here moments before. "You're back being a Death Eater, even though I can't believe you ever had the capacity to consider yourself free. Once a Death Eater, always a Death Eater, whether you like it or not Riley. Nothing can change that. Neither can anyone. But you need to prove your loyalty this time round."

The boy gave a rather careless shrug. He really wasn’t sure what he wanted to do, but he wanted to see her reaction if his future plans could play a small threat to her. Riley had always been an observer, purposely doing things just to see how others would react. He could easily learn things from watching carefully and interpreting their body language. At the moment, it didn’t seem the professor was so keen on his idea. After all, he could be competition for her and what not.
“Facts?” He questioned, his eyes flickering up to the professor, blazing with curiosity. It was no surprise to him that she was a Death Eater, but his brows did shoot up immediately upon seeing the mark. Why the hell was she actually showing him this? She had to be aware of the fact he was trying to get out. He could easily report her to the other professors and have her canned and arrested.
At her threat, he was well aware it wasn’t an empty threat. Being of her age and confidence, she had to be experienced. She could cause him to suffer horribly so with just a few simple curses. She could have him saying and doing things he swore he never would. She could make his life hell, so the boy wasn’t about to do something that could infuriate her. He liked his body unharmed and living.
He nodded softly, his eyes never leaving the mark for a good few minutes. He knew he was being watched, but by which teacher or person, he wasn’t sure. Ombre had been on his suspected list, though, and he had been watching her on his own whenever he could without making it obvious. Riley wasn’t about to leave his butt unguarded.
“What I did was right.” He breathed, his eyes snapping back to the older woman, jumping slightly as the bird fluttered to the door, blocking the only way out of the room. He swallowed softly, clenching his fists. “And I don’t regret my choice at all. The only reason I’ve returned is for the well-being of myself and the people around me I don’t want hurt.”
He was a brave boy to speak up against such a powerful person, but finally, he did obey, backing up into the seat and sinking down so he was sitting in it nicely. He gripped the arms gently, before his eyes fell back to Ombre. He clenched his jaw lightly, thinking carefully of how exactly he was going to answer the question.
“One for all.” He breathed, using more of a eeny-meeny-miney-mo method. Frankly, he didn’t understand the question at all or why she was asking it, but he knew it would be best if he answered. So, he chose what he thought was do the best. Of course, in the pit of his stomach, he had a vague feeling that either way it was going to be bad.
“I’m not a Death Eater by choice anymore!” He nearly shouted, rising a bit of his chair. “Punish me all the hell you want, but I am not going to fully be one of those mindless slaves all of you are. I am not a follower of anyone or anything. I’m never going to be fully loyal. I do this for others, not myself. Torture me all to want. Cause me to scream out in pain, but I will never fall to my knees in front of you or those three Heirs that think they actually are something special!”

Of course she was more than aware of the boys attempts to escape, to leave their family. What he apparently failed to be aware[I] of in turn was that no one ever left such a family, they could try, some even came pretty close. And others? They weren’t so lucky. Daeva smiled, glancing down at the bared arm, and then back up to the boy knowingly. She had ways to keep him quiet, and all were more than likely to be effective, surely.
Naturally. Lucky that he had head enough on his shoulders to see [I]that one! Lord help them, she’d easily murdered far more advanced wizards in her sleep than the likes of Mister Riley Miller. She wasn’t underestimating, just facing honest facts. However, as most things, there were other sides to the equals sign in the equation. All her magic was suited specifically around the Dark Arts, their were areas and aspects of magic that Daeva was equally horrendous at.
But who ever was unfortunate enough to obtain such information was unfortunate to loose their life also…
“Right?” Daeva snarled, looking upon him in open dislike, “Riley, Riley, Riley. What you did was so right and ‘noble’ it was disgustingly wrong!” She sighed in disappointment, one of the elemental rules she taught all students was that you never fell in love with anything, and if you did, you absolutely, positively, never showed such weakening emotions.
Brave? Maybe, but Daeva was certain that the border between bravery and stupidity was running a very, very thin line indeed and this Miller was skating dangerously close to tipping the scales somewhere along there. He could very easily end up without a head, or awake to find himself miles beneath the earths surface or at the bottom of the ocean floor. But no harm would come to him, she had other plans.
After all, what use was a Death Eater (reluctant or not) if he was dead?
None at all. She barely even registered his answer, charming -via the conduction of her hand- four cards into the air and transfiguring each of their images before letting them float back onto the pile. “One for all…” Ombre purred but said nothing more, glancing back up to say something before he started on his little rant. Oh Voldemort help her. Shrugging, Daeva slouched back in her chair, let the Little Prince have his say, and then they could actually get down to business.
“Exactly.” She replied calmly, “But you still don’t seem to get it, baby boy. You’re still a Death Eater. And you will be until the day you damn well die and beyond. A thing to be feared no matter whether or not you are as such on the inside, because contradictory to popular belief, you don’t even get to glimpse the inside unless the outside passes the test, I’m right and you know it. Unless someone’s willing to get passed the mark on your thigh, would anyone believe your stories? How do they know you’re not lying? You’re bound by our reputation.”
Pushing deck towards him, the Professor easily switched topics as thought they were talking about some lofty, carefree subject. “Just to help me with my ‘marking-’” she paused slightly, a smile twitching at her lips, “- I need you to pick out four cards for me. Any four, search if you want, but keep the black side facing you at all times. Then choose any card you want. The faster you do this, the faster you get to leave.”
Holding the pile of reports, the elder looked imploringly at the younger, whispering almost inaudibly, “Times going to pass you by, larking.”

Riley was well aware that she had plenty of ways that would keep him quiet of the information she had revealed to him. She could make him beg, cry, scream, wither, whimper and anything else until her heart was content. He was not going to do anything to cross her or anger her anytime soon. At least, not purposely. He liked his body pain free and his head in a sane state (if you could consider him sane now).
When it came to lighter spells, thought, Riley had probably mastered a good deal more than she had. Sure, he knew much more darker spells than he knew light, but there were still ones he had learn. Ones that could heal. Ones that could end pain. Ones that protect. Perhaps they weren't powerful spells that could do damage to the professor, but they could protect Riley if she chose to attack him in any way.
"No, only the people who kill and hurt others think it is disgusting and wrong." He hissed calmly back, his eyes dangerously blazing as they met hers. "I see it the other way around. What you and the other good-for-nothing Death Eaters do is disgusting and wrong. You kill and you hurt and you destroy for your own cruel gain. All y'all want is power and control, and it doesn't matter who you have to walk all over to get it as long as you do."
When he left, he loathed the Death Eaters. He should have never gotten involved. He should have never learned that dark magic and let them brand him. He regretted it more than anyone could imagine. He wanted out, and he wanted to stay out, but if that meant everyone he ever cared about would be put in danger, he would force himself to remain one of those stupid zombies controlled by three people they barely even know.
It annoyed him endlessly that everyone obeyed three of these Heirs that they didn't even know much about at all. They were controlled like robots and Riley wasn't even sure why. Perhaps it was the fear of the unknown. Perhaps everyone feared that if they disobeyed one little thing, there death would follow. Riley had to admit, it was a legitimate fear, but it still bothered him that so many witches and wizards didn't have a courage to challenge them or step out of the perfect line the Heirs try to keep.
Riley didn't like these cards. He didn't like the way she was talking. And he certainly didn't like that little smirk that never seemed to leave her lips. As the deck was thrust toward him, he only stared about it for a little while, her final comment running melodically through his mind as he forced himself to concentrate. Four cards. Just four cards to choose from, yet he feared what was on those four cards.
He had a mild idea of what, or rather who, was on those four cards. She had four papers, four people. Was somebody on each of those cards? He didn't have much time to concern himself over this. He had to pick fast before she decided to and the fate of these people was even worst. And so, he took one final, deep breath, holding it as his hand shakily reached forward.
He pushed the first card to the side, never wanting to choose the first one. Slowly, he drew the second, slowly lifting it up. His heart hammered in his chest as he turned it to see what exactly he had chosen. His breath was let out in a soft gasp, his eyes widening slightly as he eyed the beautiful face that stared back at him.
It was Todd's.
His eyes never left her smiling face of hers in the picture. It obviously seemed she was laughing, her multi-colored locks bouncing up and down softly. Her blue eyes sparkled happily, but it only saddened Riley more. He knew if Ombre had to do with this, what was about to happen to Todd couldn't be good. He held his breath again as he handed the card to the professor.

“Oh SHUT UP!” The professor exclaimed in a snarl, leaning forward and slamming her hand down on the desk, “Just shut the fuck up. You sound like one of those protagonist buffoons who prance around believing in illusions like love, peace, equality and shit like that. We’re realists Miller.” Oh tsk, she chided, letting this puny boy get the better of you. But Daeva couldn’t stand people who couldn’t comprehend their views and reasons, even with the most obvious and blatant guidance.
It wasn’t as if she expected Riley to join them willingly, of course not. What Ombre had expected was a level of intelligence in which it was obvious he could at least grasp the Death Eaters reasons. Yes they would go about anyway to achieve their goals and step over anyone who got in their way, Riley got that much apparently. Maybe Daeva was just so patriotic to the point where she’d become blind to anything else other than what she envisioned.
Perhaps it was simply because she’d grown up where there was no other option than those of Death Eater ranks and that right from the beginning, that was who she’d been destined to be. And dependent on how others viewed it or not, Daeva was more than happy to fulfill that. Some would think of it as having zombie-like characteristics…
She saw it as a purpose to life.
Ah the cards, excellent, her heightened senses could feel the apprehension in the room gain a few notches. She waited for him to pick one, in fact for awhile there Daeva had to wait for him to do anything at all, the damn boy just wouldn’t move! But it was all in a matter of time, and all the waiting would be worth it. If even only to see a reaction, but there’d be more of a reaction, there’d be a result.
With an insane glint in her eyes, Ombre watched as he selected a card. Of course she didn’t know ‘who’ he was choosing, it increased the anticipation and excitement so much more, it mattered not who it was, they could all be easily slipped into the corresponding position. She smiled wider, which would be more than a daunting and foreign state of expression seen regularly on the woman.
Calmly extending her hand, the Professors brushed lightly against the Estremo’s nonchalantly as her wrist burned as the dark mark sensed a familiar soul. Gazing at the picture and sighed and slumped back in her high-backed chair. “Oh bother, that is a terrible shame. You got the easy option. What a pity, it is so much easier to achieve with this girl as the objective than one of the others. After all, they are all love-interests to your family members, as for Leniah? Pah… she’s not even your friend anymore, is she?”
A cruel, sarcastic look of mock compassion crossed her features, of course she knew about that we little incident on the Fith Floor. “She’s not going to be very happy when you two next meet, although with what was exchanged last time, I doubt her anger could be much more advanced. I wouldn’t be, someone I once trusted having already broke that faith, and now-?” She paused and inched closer, “…and now he’s going to kill me. Tommorow night.”
Daeva stood and let the information sink in, “It is fortunate though, I’ve had a slight grudge against her. She was a pest to torture. Like the rest of them.” Again another paused for time to allow revelation. “And I’ll tell you why you’re going to do this. Because if she doesn’t go, the other three will. And I think for someone as stupid as she, Draumur probably take the option of death, rather than knowing she caused the deaths of the other three. Anyway, you said she was a dumb prat, it’s not like it will be too difficult for you then. I would have preferred the other three, but we’ll go with what we’ve got.”
Drawing out her wand, she flicked it casually but dangerously, “And another thing, if anything I’ve revealed to you tonight crosses your lips and to another’s ears-“ slowly Daeva dragged the object across her pale throat before exposing her wrist again “And I’ll know.”
Altaira glided away from the door now and to the top of her mistresses chair, where Ombre took up position yet again. With a sudden change, she was no longer playing the Death Eater, but had settled back into Spiteful Professor. “Goodnight Mr.Miller. That will be all, keep up the good work.”

Riley jumped nearly out of his skin as Ombre yelled, her fist causing a loud thud on the table. His eyes were immediately drawn to hers, never leaving that intense glare as she seemed to loose her cool, calm and collective appearance. Slowly, a smirk filtered over his lips along with a small chuckle from his throat. Wonderful. He had managed to push Ombre's buttons just enough to make her burst, but not enough that physical pain and discomfort would be brought his way.
"No, love and equality is not an illusion, perhaps peace, but not the other two. Greed has just come in and corrupted it all." His voice didn't falter one bit. It was clear and strong, determination leaking through. When he started speaking what he believed, Riley couldn't just stop. He had to continue. He had to get his point across or he just wasn't satisfied at all. "It corrupted the love, turning it to hate, and from equality to discrimination, but all of us are to blame. It was humans, both wizards and muggles, who caused the corruption, after all."
And easy option? Dear God, if only Ombre knew. If only she knew of the feelings Riley had for Todd. How if anything happened to her, he would blame himself and constantly remind himself he was the cause of her pain. He was the reason Todd suffered. He would tear himself up until all was better. He just longed for the girl, for her to know the truth and feel the way he felt back. Did anyone have a clue of these strong emotions? Hell no! Riley wasn't about to admit it to anyone.
He had a feeling, though, Maddi had figured it out.
Riley's jaw fell open, his eyes widening slightly. He had to kill Todd? He had to end her life? He had to kill the one person he cared about so much. A lump was forming fast in his throat, preventing him from speaking out in protest. Instead, he gave a small, muffled sort of squeak. There was no way in hell he could possibly kill, or even attempt to kill, such a precious and friendly girl. There was just no way he could bring himself to do it.
"But professor..." He manage to mutter, but she cut the Estremo off, providing his jaw with even more reason to drop. The other three would be killed if the task was not complete? God damn it, this wasn't happening. Either her lost someone he cared deeply about, or all his siblings would loose their loved ones. That would never be able to forgive him, nor would they if he killed Todd as well. He had to fine a way out, a way to prevent this all.
At the moment, he hadn't a clue what he was going to do. Ombre would have ways of knowing if he told Todd everything. Of course, she would also know if Riley didn't complete the task and others lives would be taken. He was trapped. He had no where to go, but he wouldn't just face the music. He would save Todd, and the others to for that matter, even if he had to take his own life to do so.
His eyes fell to the floor and he swallowed. "You're right, professor. It won't be any trouble to accomplish." But his facial expression said otherwise as he took a deep breath and lifted his head. He gave Ombre a final nod before rising from the chair and slowly shuffling from the room with a held breath. Dammit, he should have just stuck with the Death Eaters in the first place and all of these problems could have easily been prevented.
