Repairing the Damage [Open] « Thread Started on Jul 27, 2007, 12:42am »
[July 15th, around noon] It really was in shambles. Everything in his classroom looked as though it had been decimated by a well placed Bombarda spell. From his overturned desk, to the ashes left of one of the student's, the Ancient Runes classroom really looked horrible.
Professor Canizales sighed, and took out his wand. It had been almost a month since the attack, but he had been too busy trying to rescue survivors, cleaning out bodies, and cremating the Death Eaters. Not to mention, helping restore the school from all the explosions and spells.
Almost lazily, the Mexican waved his wand, causing his desk to regain its normal position. The legs were broken and his carefully labeled drawers now held a jumble of items. Nice, very nice. With a Reparo spell, the legs were put back into place, and the Professor proceeded to sort out the 'surviving' things from the mess of his drawers.
The black haired man was sad, as sad as he hadn't been in a long time. Since... oh, let's see... last year, really. His yearly visit to his parent's house were disaster after disaster. Perhaps he just ought to stop going. It wasn't like they were going to lose their faith overnight.
Walking tiredly to the nearest window, the Professor stared for a moment at the grounds. They had cleaned the bodies, but there were some scorch marks here and there. And the fact that no one seemed to be outside just helped to make him remember what had happened less than a month ago.
"Could we have done this differently? Won that battle without less deaths? Forced them to leave quicker?" he spoke to himself, softly, as though he did not wish to disturb the silence of his classroom. Or what was left of it. "We won... but the price was too high. They are the Heirs... they shall not give up... but I'll be ready next time." he vowed to himself, grabbing his wand as tightly as he could.
He had not escaped the battle unscathed. No, he had received some kind of curse to his left arm, and he still had trouble when it came to using him. "Next time... I sure hope they are defeated before 'next time' is upon us." For now, all he could do was try and repair the damage done to his classroom.

The first time that Emilia Vandermeer had walked into her room it had looked like a disaster zone. Her right eye brow had quirked and then twitched slightly. The way it always did when she was seriously, royally pissed.
Oh she understood perfectly that there had been an attack and the situation had been dire and desperate to assemble some sort of defense. But here? On the Fourth Floor?! For Merlin's sakes! She could understand the way the Third Floor looked... haunted, decrepit, blown to pieces. But the Fourth Floor classrooms should not have suffered the damage hers did.
But she merely stored the picture of destruction in her memory, and vowed to do something about it. Some day. Somehow. Nothing at all, she could do, really. Whatever had been used to defend the school had kept it standing despite the immense size of the army and the horrible odds it suffered. It was a miracle it had lasted that long, with only a few teachers--a frankly uncoordinated, and truthfully blameless, defense--and a few hundred students. And they had paid in blood and death.
Now as she walked through the decimated Third Level, Emilia spotted her object of interest. Professor Canizales, and the Ancient Runes classroom. She would have knocked on the door if there had been one. So instead she walked a little more brisk so that her heels would clap against the stone floor louder, announcing her presence.
"Oh my," She spoke empathetically. "Horrible!" And she was sure the man had heard her.
In her eyes, he was handsome, and if she'd been straight, she would have enjoyed scanning ever bit of his perfectly proportioned--yet sadly clothed--body. But since she wasn't a heterosexual woman, and without a shred of interest in men, other than cordiality and friendship, she simply assessed his worth to her in the long-run.
The jury was still out on that one when she spoke again, "Might I offer assistance with this mess?"
A good way to gain someone's trust, she calculated behind that rouged smile.

Disaster Zone was a good name to give to the overall state of the school, really. Although most of the damage had been already repaired, since it had been almost a month since the attack, some classrooms, such as Omar's, weren't considered a priority.
The Fourth floor must look like paradise compared to the Third. Since, you know, there weren't so many bloodstains and there wasn't a freaking hole in the middle of the corridor. Also, students hadn't demolished the Fourth floor's classrooms by making desks soar through the door, and sometimes, through the wall itself. Damned students. They probably would have been forced to help with the reparations had it not been a life or death situation.
Blood, death. Yes. That was the payment for their unawareness of the surprise attack. If there was a next attack, Omar would probably have already set the stupid runes and used a Sonorus Oratio spell to activate them. Or something like that. If there was a next time, explosive runes weren't going to be held back. Oh, no.
For now, his classroom needed to be repaired. A few non verbal spells cleared the dust, and then the Mexican returned to his post near the window. The sudden realization that it was his birthday hit him. Not that anybody would care for a celebration right now.
The Professor turned around when he heard his colleague entering the room. So far, he had not been able to interact with Emilia Vandermeer. The ex-Ravenclaw knew that she taught Muggle Studies, but that was it. "Horrible indeed." he agreed, but chose to say nothing else.
Had he not been so immersed in his work, he may have noticed that she wasn't so bad looking. As it was, however, he was too busy 'cleaning' his classroom and reflecting on the attack to notice anything.
"Oh thanks. I'd really appreciate it. Can you help me with fixing that stupid hole beside the door frame?" Yes, offering help in times like this was probably bound to create some sort of 'good first impression'. Probably.
"I don't think we have been introduced. Omar Canizales, Ancient Runes Professor." He switched his wand to his left hand and took out his right, waiting for Professor Vandermeer to shake it.
